Леда.

Леда, в греческой мифологии супруга спартанского царя Тиндарея. По наиболее распространённому варианту мифа, Леда — дочь царя Фестия из Этолии, к которому бежал изгнанный из Спарты Тиндарей. За помощь, оказанную ему в отражении воинственных соседей, Фестий отдал Тиндарею в жёны Леду. Детьми Леда были близнецы —Диоскуры, Клитеместра и Елена. Последняя считалась дочерью Зевса, который соединился с Ледой в образе лебедя; от этого союза она родила яйцо, и из него появилась Елена. Скорлупу яйца показывали в одном из храмов Спарты во 2 в. (Paus. Ill 16, 1).

По другой версии мифа, Леда только сберегла у себя яйцо, снесённое богиней Немесидой от брака с Зевсом и найденное пастухом; когда из него появилась красавица-девочка, Леда воспитала её как собственную дочь. Существуют также различные сказания о количестве яиц, снесённых Ледой. Миф о браке Леды с Зевсом в античном изобразительном искусстве воплотился в пластике (ряд скульптур, в том числе«Леда и лебедь» Тимофея, дошедшая до нас в копиях, рельефы и др.), живописи(фрески в Помпеях и Стабиях) и особенно в вазописи.

В европейском искусстве миф нашёл воплощение в средневековой книжной миниатюре, а с эпохи Возрождения стал одним из популярнейших в живописи и пластике(Леонардо да Винчи, Микеланджело, Андреа дель Сарто, Корреджо, Понтормо, П. Веронезе, Я. Тинторетто, Б. Челлини, П. П. Рубенс, Я. Йордане, Н. Пуссен и др.).

This Leda was formerly thought to be the work of Leonardo. However, it is now attributed to Giampietrino who made it after the lost painting by Leonardo. The contribution of Bernazzano (active in Milan that time) is also assumed.
